In the resolution clauses, Castelo cites the deceased Lopez for being at the forefront of environmental protection.

Lopez, a former Environment Secretary, died of cancer last August 19.

“She brought to bear veritable ecological programs that sought to protect and uphold the interests of the environment,” Castelo said.

“Her most notable achievements include the successful reforestation of the La Mesa Watershed,” he noted.

Castelo also cited Lopez for her remarkable feat of being the first Filipino to be awarded the prestigious Seacology Prize in October 2017 at Berkeley in California.

The award was accorded to Lopez for her “exceptional achievement in preserving island environments and culture.”

“Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who care for the welfare of Mother Nature. It is only fitting that she be memorialized where her legacy continues,” Castelo concluded.
