Father Cullen visits Karibu World Shop
Kassel. He cares, where others turn away: The world famous Irish priest Father Shay Cullen, founder of Preda Foundation and the Preda Fair Trade organization, visits “Karibu Kassel e.V.” on Tuesday, April 5, to give a presentation on his long lasting engagement for abused women and children in the Philippines. The 72-year-old Father Shay Cullen, priest of the Irish St. Columban order, promotes social justice and fights against exploitation for over 40 years now. He founded Preda Foundation in Olongapo together with two like-minded co-founders in 1974. This was towards the end of Vietnam war when the US increased its military bases in the Philippines and with it thousands of soldiers entered the country. The city of Olongapo was called “Sodom of Southeast Asia” owing to the copious abuse of women and children. Preda Foundation at that time sheltered drug-addicted teenagers, street children as well as abused women and children. In 1975 the Preda Fare Trade organization was founded to support local companies in the agricultural and handcraft sector. Since then Father Shay Cullen provides a secure shelter for children and women, medical and legal support, education and psychological treatment. But further than that: Since then he is also promoting social justice tirelessly and has had great success in the Philippines as well as on international stages.
Father Cullen narrates about his encounters in the Philippines and his work for more social justice at Karibu World Shop beginning at 7 pm.
